Come Closer

Come Closer is a series of ten monologues performed in the Royal Exchange Hall, over the weekend of 15 – 17 April.  On the Saturday when I saw it, five were being performed at the same time, competing for both audience and space from around the hall.  The air was filled with moving and wonderful words, the effect quite stunning.

‘You know that feeling when you just have to tell the truth or you will burst? Come and hear ten characters who dare to tell it like it is. From intimate confessions to foot-stomping polemics – discover characters around The Great Hall, waiting for an audience. Find them, take a seat, and listen.   Created by some of the most exciting new BAME British writers, Talawa Theatre Company and the Royal Exchange, Manchester presents world premieres of 10 short plays inspired by a line from King Lear:

Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say.’
